If you are curious to know some more about indoor skydiving or looking for that one discipline you want to master, have a look at the explanations below.

FS – Formation skydiving

Formation skydiving also called “belly flying” is the most popular discipline worldwide. It sets the foundation for bodyflight in general. You have to learn basic “belly flying” before you can move on to anything else.

There are multiple formations or shapes that competitors make by taking grips with their team. These formations are a pre-set dive pool with designated numbers/names that can be trained prior to competition.

FS is a very speed-driven, high intensity discipline. The team with the most points at the end of all the rounds, wins. There are multiple competitive categories within FS, from 2-way to 5-way.

VFS – Vertical Formation Skydiving

Vertical Formation Skydiving is a discipline where competitors fly in vertical orientations, so flyers remain either head-up or head-down relative to the net.

There are two competitive categories within VFS, 2-way and 4-way. Each category will have specific formations with corresponding names that the competitors can train.

In competitions, formations will be drawn at random. These drawings determine the sequences and formations that the competitors must complete in the given order and as fast as they can.

Freestyle

Freestyl is the only individual discipline in indoor skydiving that currently exists. Freestyle is unique from all of the other disciplines for various reasons. It consists of a series of rounds and is not a speed intensive discipline.

Flyers train and design an artistic routine that are typically 60-120 seconds long. Each round is a new and fresh routine designed to showcase the flyer’s abilities and style. Recently, a new addition to the freestyle discipline was introduced in the form of a music round.

Dynamic Flying

Dynamic is very different from all of the other disciplines. Dynamic flying involves fluid flying and can include artistic routines. It does not require creating shapes/formations with your team, however this is also a speed driven discipline. The dynamic discipline has 2 categories, 2-way and 4-way. Each level of flying will have their own series of moves with various levels of difficulty.

As the sport evolves, also the disciplines change and new rules take effect. The best part about indoor skydiving is that the people practicing the sport have an influence on the disciplines, and rules, and therefore can influence the direction of the sport.

If you are interesting in learning some more about the different disciplines or want to master any of the moves, contact our staff who will be happy to help you reach your goals or answer any questions you might have about indoor skydiving.

Although these two sports are complementary and quite similar, there are some differences between them.

Yes it is! Although these two sports are complementary and quite similar, there are some differences between them.

Indoor Skydiving, also known as Bodyflying, is a new and modern sport. Its popularity has increased every year and is in the process of becoming an Olympic sport. Indoor Skydiving allows you to practice your body’s stability and perfect maneuvers for as long as you wish. Normal flight sessions in the wind tunnel last between 2 and 15 minutes, while a normal skydive only lasts between 45 to 60 seconds. It is for this reason that wind tunnels are the perfect place for skydivers to practice and improve their movements before a jump. Ask any of the best skydivers today and they will tell you how important wind tunnels have become for skydiving.

Indoor Skydiving is safer.

Skydiving is an inherently risky sport and, for the most part, it is only accessible to people over 18. On the other hand, wind tunnels provide a controlled and safe environment where anyone over 4 years old can experience the sensation of free falling. In skydiving, there are usually no references that you are falling towards the ground, however, in the wind tunnels, the glass walls give you an exact reference for your movements. Inside the wind tunnel, it is also possible to fly upwards, changing the position of the body. This feeling is only possible in Indoor Skydiving and it is absolutely exciting!

Indoor Skydiving is not dependent on the weather.

Skydiving is very dependent on the weather. When there is too much wind or rain, skydiving suspends operations. In the wind tunnel this does not happen and it is possible to fly all year round, in any weather condition. Since Indoor Skydiving can be done at any time, this means that there will be no additional waiting time on the floor and you will not have to worry about rescheduling the flight for unexpected reasons.

Another very important difference is the cost.

Skydiving is a very expensive activity when you are trying it out for the first time and even more when you consider becoming certified and buying your own equipment to jump alone. With Indoor Skydiving, you don’t need to empty your bank account to feel the thrill of freefall. This makes Indoor Skydiving the perfect experience to share with friends, family, or even alone. It is also the perfect activity for groups, teambuilding events, and parties.

Indoor skydiving

An excellent way to experience free fall in a safe environment or to practice before a jump;

Safe and controlled environment;

Suitable for anyone from 4 years of age;

It is not dependent on the weather;

Cheaper than skydiving.

In conclusion, Indoor Skydiving has quickly evolved into a fun and dynamic sport that has made skydiving accessible to anyone. Nowadays, the two sports are so connected that it is difficult to find skydivers that have not used wind tunnels to improve their skills before heading to the sky.

DreamFly was founded and is managed by highly experienced skydivers who make regular jumps. We are passionate about bodyflight, both inside wind tunnels and outside in the big blue sky.

DreamFly, made by skydivers, for everyone!
